RIP: Tommy Tubbs

Posted by Meadowlark Men's Club at May 21, 2024 7:48AM PDT

We are sad to announce the passing of one of our long-time men’s club members and Meadowlark employees, Tommy Tubbs, on Mother’s Day. Tom was a member of the club for over 40 years and was loved and respected by all of us. He and his buddy, Bobby Dunham, who also passed a few years ago, were “the dynamic duo” and won a ton of Meadowlark Men’s Club tournaments together over the years. Tom was best known for putting us all to sleep waiting for him to finish his backswing. But when he finished, the ball usually went long and far and straight. Needless to say, he was a great golfer and loved playing the game and competing with his friends.

When Tom wasn’t playing golf, you could find him cutting the fairways, running the front desk, and most recently, fulfilling the roll of Ambassador for us on the course. Tommy loved Meadowlark and he spent countless hours before and after rounds of golf gabbing with the guys and making us all feel like we were his best friend. Tom spent the last few days of his life at his daughter [Jamie’s] house surrounded by his loving family.

Buddy, you will be greatly missed.

A longtime member of ours, Bill Grizzle, has passed. Bill joined the Meadowlark Men’s Club in 1975 and served the club in many positions on the Board of Directors, including the Handicap Committee and assisted Eno Angulo with the scoring for Tournaments. Bill was appointed to this position by Ron Bergland, a multiple past President and current scorer of the weekday games at the Lark.

Eno and Bill had a very close relationship, as well as many other members who loved “Griz”, as he was affectionally known.

Bill retired and moved to Sutan Valley, Arizonia in early 2012. Bill suffered a stroke a few years after his move which affected his eye sight rendering him unable to continue to play golf with his new buddies at the local course.

My best memories of Bill was being able to play golf with him in our regular Saturday group. Bill was a very competitive golfer, but most of all he was a great guy to play with because he had the best dry sense of humor, and loved to have a little 2-2-2 action.

Bill was truly respected by his peers and a true Meadowlarker. Bill was a good friend to “almost” ha everyone who knew him. Bill was also a very generous man who helped out many other members that were in need. Bill also loved to fish, hunt and travel, and was a regular tournament player who loved to travel to the out-of-towners.

Bill was fortunate enough to have passed while at his home surrounded by family.

Bill will be truly missed!
